A comprehensive multi-disciplinary spinal decompression program designed by an osteopathic physician (D.O.) utilizing a specialized decompression system combined with our non-invasive regenerative medicine procedures.
Following your examination and review of your imaging studies by a board-certified radiologist, we customize your treatment to address the common intertwined problems with chronic back pain, namely the structural ligaments, facets (joints), discs, and dysfunctional paraspinal muscles.
Decompression therapy involves using motorized traction to gently stretch the spine. This in turn relieves the pain and helps restore function. Stretching and relaxing the spine intermittently in a controlled manner creates a negative pressure within the disc. This helps with fluid exchange within the central part of the disc which brings essential nutrients and hydration into these areas to assist in healing.
Our program is complimented with extensive non-invasive regenerative medicine procedures that reduce pain, decrease inflammation, tighten ligaments, and strengthen muscles. The goal is a stronger, healthier, pain free spine.
includes 20 decompression & customized multi-modality treatments
This service is only offered at our DuBois location
Our 10 week spinal decompression and regeneration program is the result of a collaboration between our osteopathic regenerative medicine physician and our chiropractors who are all certified in spinal decompression. It uses specialized spinal decompression combined with customized non-invasive regenerative medicine procedures utilizing Shockwave therapy, Class IV Musculoskeletal Laser, and High Energy Inductive Therapy (HEIT).
We first have a consultation where we discuss the specifics of your lower back pain, go over your past treatment history, check your medication use, and review your surgical/procedural history. We then review your X-rays and MRI’s and all laboratory reports and tests you provide. A physical exam and diagnostic session with spinal decompression and Shockwave is performed. This information is then analyzed and a determination is made as to whether you may benefit from our services. If results from your intake and diagnostic sessions are encouraging, these patients will be accepted into our program.
Generally speaking, the therapy lasts about 45-60 minutes per session.
We recommend loose athletic clothing for the best comfort.
This is the perfect time to address the common claim of “we can help you avoid surgery” made by practitioners who work in manipulation and therapy clinics.
To start, many of the conditions that are treated by providers such as chiropractors and physical therapists are not even conditions that would likely result in surgery. The common lower back and musculoskeletal complaints that are seen in primary care offices are often non-surgical problems. If not treated, they may result in chronic pain and limitations in your life. However, they are often not the types of problem that warrant surgery at that time or even have a surgical “cure” option. Some of these conditions may however progress to surgery if not treated. This may be years or decades later.
In addition to the significant pain, patients with lower back issues often have loss of mobility and significant limitations in their lifestyles. But even though they have significant problems, the answer is not often surgery.
There are some conditions that need surgery or interventional pain management services for the best outcome. If we determine your condition will not likely respond to our services to a satisfactory degree we will discuss that with you and help facilitate referral to another physician to discuss your options.
Medications you are prescribed may be able to be reduced or eliminated following services received at our center. However, this will be a decision made between you and the prescriber. Our doctors can help coordinate care.
Individuals that are pregnant, have cancer, infection, or acute fractures of the spine, osteoporosis, significant spondylolisthesis, screws, plates, cages and artificial discs should not seek spinal decompression. These patients could seek care with us through our regenerative spine services without decompression to help alleviate, eliminate, or manage their back pain.
Spinal decompression therapy can help some people with back pain after certain minimally invasive spinal surgery who have not been left with an unstable spine. You must wait six months after your last surgery. These patients could seek care with us through our services which do not use the decompression device.
As with any area of medicine or surgery, we cannot guarantee any outcome. Your doctor will discuss your specific condition and treatment with you and make sure your expectations are in line with our expected result. Our main focus is to improve your quality of life by reducing pain, helping heal and regenerate damaged tissues, and improving spinal and extremity mobility to facilitate your lifestyle.
