Class IV Medical Laser, also known as High Intensity Laser Therapy, targets damaged tissue with specific wavelengths of light that have been found to interact with tissue and accelerate the healing process.
This FDA cleared therapeutic treatment manages pain and inflammation while accelerating tissue healing and regeneration. Laser energy increases circulation drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area, creating an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasm, stiffness, and pain. Class IV Laser can be used for a myriad of both acute and chronic conditions.
Research shows tissues targeted by high power laser therapy stimulates an increase production of a key cellular enzyme (Cytochrome C Oxidase) that is critical for the production of ATP, the chemical energy unit of the living cell.
Through this and other photobiomodulation effects, a host of biologic responses are facilitated. These include the mediation of pain, reduced inflammation, reduced scar tissue, increased cellular metabolism, improved vascular activity, and ultimately accelerated healing.
Class IV Laser can be used for a myriad of both acute and chronic conditions. Treatments are optimal at 2-4 times a week initially, tapering to once a week or every other week over time.
This therapy is very complimentary to our OMT and Shockwave protocols and therefore can be added into your program.
The wavelength of light not only determines color in the visible spectrum, but also it's depth of penetration into the body system. In general, longer wavelengths allow energy to penetrate more deeply into the body than shorter wavelengths. Wavelengths also have different absorption efficiencies for particular body structures.
Our lasers can deliver their light energy either as a Continuous Wave (always on) or pulsed. The number of times the light is switched on or off each second is called the Frequency.
Different pulse frequencies elicit different physiological responses depending upon the anatomical part being treated (i.e. bone, soft tissue, and fat).
Laser therapy induces a series of healing responses in your body. During treatment you will feel a soothing warmth that identifies the beginning of a process of modulated cellular activity leading to decreased pain and improved local circulation to the area treated. Successful treatment programs require multiple treatments, the number of weeks depend on the condition and severity of symptoms.

No, but there is a heating sensation during treatment. Usually, one feels mild, soothing warmth similar to sitting in the warm sunlight. If you feel a burning sensation during the treatment let the technician know so that the settings and application pattern can be adjusted.
No, this is high intensity laser therapy (HILT) and is a Class IV medical laser. "Cold lasers" are Class II lasers which are typically used in laser pointers and grocery store checkout scanners.
The typical treatment is 4-8 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Class IV Medical laser is extremely safe provided it is applied by a trained staff member. However, it is not used near the eyes due to the sensitivity of the retina; therefore, all patients wear protective safety glasses during the treatment. It cannot be used over the thyroid gland, and patients with seizures should not look at the site during the treatment as some protocols use a pulsed wave which results in a rapid flickering of the aiming beam. If you feel a burning sensation during treatment immediately make the staff aware. This is easily adjusted by altering the laser application pattern and/or phase times.
Acute conditions may be treated 2-3 x week, even daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week, tapering to once a week, or once every other week, with improvement.
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 1 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 10 to 15 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.
You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes, you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 to 4 sessions. Results typically continue weeks to months after the therapy as the body continues to regenerate and heal the connective tissues.
High powered laser therapy can be directed to conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, shingles, non-healing wounds, and to improve healing after surgery.
