Neuropathy Treatment

This program is used for patients who have been diagnosed with diabetic neuropathy by a healthcare provider and have their medical management for this condition optimized with their primary care provider.

Book Now

What to Expect

The first visit includes a physician evaluation and includes osteopathic manipulation of the foot/ankle or along the lower extremities. Your specialist co-pay will be due at the time of service.

We offer two pricing options described below. For best results our protocol is eight sessions of Class IV Medical Laser and High Energy Inductive Therapy over 3-4  weeks. We also offer single modality treatment with Class IV Medical Laser only. This treatment is performed by one of our advanced modality providers. We can begin your treatment at your first visit if desired.

Once the condition begins to respond to these therapies, we may consider adding or substituting Shockwave Therapy to further neuromodulate the peripheral nerves leading to the feet if necessary.

HEIT will be used on your lower leg along the course of the involved nerves. The medical laser is used on the feet and ankles diffusely with some concentration along the larger nerves supplying the feet.

If you do not show noticeable improvement within these initial eight sessions, it is not felt likely that you will benefit from these modalities.

General Advice Post Treatment

We ask that you also continue diligent medical management with your primary care provider, maintain good diabetic control and practice risk factor modification. Ensure with your primary care provider that other causes of peripheral neuropathy or your symptoms are not due to another medical condition such as, but not limited to, peripheral vascular disease.

Please avoid or limit the use of ice during therapy, and do not take NSAIDS in the first 24-48 hours after a Shockwave treatment. Attempt to avoid NSAIDS completely if possible. Tylenol can be used for pain as directed.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, but there is a heating sensation during treatment. Usually, one feels mild, soothing warmth similar to sitting in the warm sunlight.  If you feel a burning sensation during the treatment let the technician know so that the settings and application pattern can be adjusted.

No, this is high intensity laser therapy (HILT) and is a Class IV medical laser. "Cold lasers" are Class II lasers which are typically used in laser pointers and grocery store checkout scanners.

The typical treatment is 12-22 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

Class IV Medical laser is extremely safe provided it is applied by a trained staff member. However, it is not used near the eyes due to the sensitivity of the retina; therefore, all patients wear protective safety glasses during the treatment. It cannot be used over the thyroid gland, and patients with seizures should not look at the site  during the treatment as some protocols use a pulsed wave which results in a rapid flickering of the aiming beam. If you feel a burning sensation during treatment immediately make the staff aware. This  is easily adjusted by altering the laser application pattern and/or phase times.

We recommend 2-3 times per week over the course of 3-4 weeks.

This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. We initially recommend 8 sessions. Maintenance treatments thereafter are recommended. If you do not show noticeable improvement within these initial 8 sessions, it is not fely likely that you will benefit from these modalities.

You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes, you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 to 4 sessions. Results typically continue weeks to months after the therapy as the body continues to regenerate and heal the connective tissues.
